EFGCP Children's Medicines Working Party

The EFGCP Children's Medicines Working Party facilitates the discussion in Europe towards a broader public agreement on the needs for better medicines for children. It focuses on the development of an ethical and scientific framework for clinical research for children that is supported by the developing European regulatory framework in paediatric clinical trials. The EFGCP uses its traditional strength in consensus building in forming a coalition of core representatives from pediatricians & academia, regulatory authorities, patients' & parents' organisations, ethical committees and the research-friendly media on a European level.  

 

The EFGCP Children's Medicines Working Party focuses specifically on the following:  

examining in Europe  

society's appreciation of the role of research in child health:  

mechanisms how public opinion is developed and influenced in this area,  

legal and regulatory initiatives to improve medicines for children,  

current practices of pediatric children and data exchange,  

ethical framework for developing medicines for children;  

facilitating in Europe increased public awareness for the need of more & better research in children and create a supporting network to serve as reference centre;  

contributing in Europe to consensus building between pediatricians, academia, health authorities, pharmaceutical industry, parents' & patients' organisations, and the media on the need to further advance research for better medicines for children;  

driving the public debate from 2004 and the following years through core group meetings and organising appropriate international conferences;  

preparing tools and documents available to parents and clinical investigators about the methodology as well as potential benefit and risks of clinical research in children.
